LPFM License Application Process – Frequently Asked Questions

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will accept electronically filed low power FM (LPFM) construction permit applications for new LPFM stations from October 15, 2013 to 6 PM EST on November 14, 2013. To help consumers with the filing process, here are answers to some commonly asked questions. LPFM Radio Filing Window – Congress Takes Notice – Filing Window Extended through 11/14

BREAKING: LPFM Store staff Dustin Williams was in contact with Third District Congressman Adrian Smith who said this morning: "We will be releasing an LPFM-specific public notice shortly which will announce an extended window filing period and the rescheduling of the webinar that was to have occurred on 10/3." If you intend to apply you need to take necessary steps immediately to ensure there is enough time to prepare your applications and file during this open window. Depending on your situation, even at an accelerated pace, there are several steps in preparation you must take that could take several days. Federal Government Shutdown & the Low Power FM Radio Filing Window

Clearly this makes it impossible for anyone to properly prepare an LPFM radio application. The Commission cannot reasonably expect the public to prepare, coordinate, secure and file a complete application within the two week period beginning October 15th, should the shutdown end in a week or two. The Commission shut down today without a word about how an extended shutdown would affect the scheduled window dates. Though unreasonable, we must continue to expect that the window will open as scheduled. We are hoping they will do the right thing and delay the window a few weeks to allow the public to finalize engineering, tower agreements, etc prior to filing an application. Without the delay, the quality of the apps received will be poor and will not properly and fairly serve the public interest. Continue reading
